Dr. Merab Boter was one of the first surgeons to use Varithena® in the United States and it continues to be an effective treatment for Varicose Veins.

What is Varithena®

Varithena® (polidocanol injectable foam) is the only FDA-approved foam treatment for varicose veins in the great saphenous vein (GSV) system of the leg and is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins regarding the great saphenous vein (GSV) system. Varithena® can improve symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, including the appearance of varicose veins.

Varithena® is minimally invasive and nonsurgical:
Treatment with Varithena® does not require general anesthesia or incisions. Dr. Boter can complete the treatment in 5-10 minutes and patients may resume some activities the same day but should avoid heavy exercise for 7 days.

Possible Side Effects
The most common side effects seen with Varithena® were injection site bruising or pain, leg pain or discomfort and possible theoretical side effect – potentially serious blood clot in the deep venous system and allergic reaction to the Varithena®. Never occurred in the FDA controlled study of 1,333 patients treated. These are not all of the possible side effects of Varithena®.
